Join us for a free livestreamed music and lecture series, co-presented by ASU Kerr and Arizona Opera! Each lecture will be capped off by a musical selection sung by an Arizona Opera Marion Roose Pullin Studio Artist.

Have you ever wondered where it all began? Presented by Brian DeMaris, Artistic Director of Music Theatre, and Opera at Arizona State University, “The Invention of Opera” will take us through the history of opera and where it came from up to the Mozart operas we know and love today. The presentation will conclude with a live performance from one of the Marion Roose Pullin Arizona Opera Studio Artists.

Opera? Musical? What is the difference? Join Artistic Director of Music Theatre and Opera at Arizona State University Brian DeMaris as we dive into the invention of the American musical. In this presentation we will learn about the history of musical theatre and where it came from, including operetta, minstrelsy, Vaudeville, and early musical comedy. The presentation will conclude with a live performance from one of the Marion Roose Pullin Arizona Opera Studio Artists.
